Steve Yimga

23_steveComposer, performer, band leader, teacher and workshop leader, Steve Yimga uses a multitude of talents in his work. Steve is a versatile African drummer who has performed at venues across Birmingham, including The Drum, Symphony Hall, Library Theatre, CBSO Centre and The Crescent Theatre. He has contributed to Arts Fest, Celebrating Sanctuary and many other community events. He has performed with his own band, Crossroad Collision, with Sid Peacock’s Surge, and has also played alongside several leading artists, including the late Andy Hamilton and the Blue Notes.

Crossroad Collision

Steve Yimga’s blistering African drumming was the focal point of this Afro fusion band, consistently popular at Celebrating Sanctuary’s 2009 club nights. Combining elements of jazz, world rhythms and African beats, watching Crossroad Collision perform was exhilarating, the energy from the stage reflected in dancing feet and smiling faces throughout the room. Front man Steve Yimga was captivating, but every member of the band a key player, and the audience never felt left out.
