Julienne Mwanza with Joel Ogoe (DR Congo / Burundi)

nullBorn in Togo to parents from Congo and Burundi Julienne Mwanza moved to the UK when she was 4 and has taken inspiration from all corners of Africa!  Music is embedded in Congolese culture so Julienne has always been exposed to it and naturally developed her own rhythm and sound.  Learning the guitar from age 14, she was inspired to learn as many other instruments as possible!  Expressing herself through songwriting and composition has allowed her to become the musician she is today.

She has been part of Congolese group ‘The Redeemed’, who have performed concerts, community events and gigs in and around Birmingham, singing traditional Congolese gospel in either French, Lingala or Swahili.

Performing as a duet, Julienne will be joined by Joel Ogoe on keyboard.

“I create a unique blended sound taking influence from Congolese and Burundian music, Gospel and Soul. I describe my performances as an invitation to experience a spiritual movement through the power of sound and participation.”  Julienne Mwanza
